Sambu, Dohrmann named OVC adidas Runners of the Week

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – A pair of Tennessee Tech cross country standouts, sophomore Geoffrey Sambu and senior Yeshi Dohrmann, have each been tabbed as the Ohio Valley Conference adidas Runner of the Week.

Sambu finished third out of 77 Division I runners at the Florida State Invitational held last Friday at the Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, a performance that netted him Male Runner of the Week. The newcomer covered the 8K in 25:19.52, just three seconds behind the winner and 10 seconds ahead of the fourth place competitor on a hot and humid evening. It marks the second time the transfer from Florida A&M has earned OVC Runner of the Week honors this season.

Dohrmann, who was named the OVC Female Runner of the Week, ran a personal-best time of 19:27.89 in the 5K at the Florida State Invitational. She finished the race in 39th place in a field of 108 Division I runners.

Tech's cross country teams, under the direction of first-year coach Wayne Angel, are off for a couple of weeks until the OVC Championships, slated for Nov. 1 in Anniston, Ala.
