Tech heads to Arkansas State for Red Wolves Open

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech track and field team hits the road this weekend as they head to Arkansas State to participate in the A-State Red Wolves Open on Friday and Saturday.

The A-State Red Wolf Open will take Arkansas State University Track Facility in Jonesboro, Ark.

The Golden Eagles are looking to build off a successful outing at the APSU Invitational last week at Austin Peay.  Tech saw 10 different athletes hit career-best marks, including senior Brooklyn Kimball who finished third in the 400m-race with a time of 58.58, almost two seconds faster than her previous career-high.

On Friday, sophomore Jaelyn Todd and freshman Bethany Parker will be competing in the hammer throw, while sophomore Makayla Kington will participate in the javelin.  In running events, Kimball, sophomores Tiara Hymon and Brittany McGee, and freshman Kayla Turange will all take part in the 200m-race, while freshman Lera McNamara will run the 5000m-race.

Tech will open Saturday's competition with Kington and Parker participating in the shot put. Kington, along with Todd, will take part in the discus event as well.

On the track, the Golden Eagles will open with the 4x100m relay; they will follow with freshmen Sonel Bezuidenhout and Kathie O'Neill in the 1500m-run. Juniors Chelsea Mills and Atlanta Westbrook, along with McGee and Turange, will participate in the 100m-dash. The 800m-race will include freshman Madison Stremler, Priscah Jemeli, and Landry Loving. McNamara and Bezuidenhout will also participate in the 3000m-race, while the day will close out with the 4x400m relay.

This is the second-to-last meet before the Golden Eagles head to the Ohio Valley Conference meet.
