Tennessee Tech volleyball team receives AVCA Team Academic award

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech volleyball team was named a recipient of the 2013-14 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic award. Tech is one of just six Ohio Valley Conference teams to win the award this year.

"This is the second year we have received this award and our GPA continues to climb," head coach Dave Zelenock said. "Recruiting student-athletes who can get it done in the classroom and on the court is a priority for our staff.  We have players who are studying to be nurses, engineers, architects, and other majors, at a very tough academic institution and still they still continue to put up great GPAs. It's a credit to their hard work, our academic support staff, our administration and our coaches who put an emphasis on academics."

The award, which was initiated by the AVCA in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that display excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
