Dodd, Smith pick up final weekly awards of the 2014 season

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech women's volleyball team took two of the three final weekly awards from the Ohio Valley Conference on Tuesday, as junior Cody Dodd claimed adidas® OVC Offensive Player of the Week and senior Courtney Smith claimed her second-straight adidas® OVC Defensive Player of the Week, as voted on by the Sports Information Directors in the OVC.

This marks the third time Dodd has won the weekly award, making her the first Tech offensive player to win the award three or more times since 1997, when Rachel Melchiorre claimed four.

Dodd tied a career-high with 30 kills to go with a team-high 20 digs in the four set win over Jacksonville State. The 30 kills in four sets tied a school record, which was set by Melchiorre in 1997. Dodd followed that up with a 16-kill performance against UT Martin. She also added nine digs against the Skyhawks. The Cookeville native averaged 5.75 kills and 3.62 digs per set last week.

For Smith, it was her fourth award, making her the only defensive player in TTU history to win the award four times in a single season. Smith recorded 17 digs versus Jacksonville State and added 22 against UT Martin last week. She is currently leading the OVC in digs. She added 14 assists and three service aces last week.

With Tech's Saturday night win over UT Martin, they clinched fifth place in the Ohio Valley Conference, the highest seed since 2009 when Tech was also the 5th seed. This also marks the first time TTU has been in the OVC Tournament since 2010. TTU will face fourth-seed Jacksonville State at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20. The tournament will be held on the campus of first-seed Murray State.

Eastern Illinois' Marah Bradbury claimed the adidas® OVC Setter of the Week honor.
