Senior libero nabs adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – For the second straight week, Tennessee Tech volleyball has a player earn a weekly honor, as senior libero Courtney Smith earned the adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor on Monday.

Smith, a Knoxville, Tenn., native, wrangled in an impressive 96 digs in four matches over the weekend, recording double-digit digs in all four matches. Against Wofford, Smith tallied 11 digs, adding 26 against N.C. A&T, 34 against USC Upstate, and 25 against Gardner-Webb. She also added five service aces and 16 assists.  For her impressive digging effort and serve receive, Smith was named to the Spartanburg Courtyard Classic All-Tournament Team.

Junior Cody Dodd was named adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week last week. This is the first time since the 2010 season that Tennessee Tech has had two different players win Player of the Week award winners in the same season.

The adidas® 2014 OVC Players of the Week joining Smith this week both hail from Austin Peay. Senior outside hitter Jada Stotts earned Offensive Player of the Week, while junior Aubrey Marsellis earned Setter of the Week. 

The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Western Kentucky for a 7 p.m. CT mid-week matchup.
