Golden Eagles swept by top-ranked Racers

MURRAY, Ky. – The Tennessee Tech volleyball team fell to the top-ranked Murray State Racers on Saturday night in straight sets, 25-16, 25-20, 25-11.

The Racers, who are currently on a nine-match win streak, used blistering efficiency to beat the Golden Eagles (11-17, 6-6) on Saturday as they hit .545 for the match, only committing five errors with 53 kills.

In the opening set, Murray State (20-4, 11-1) hit an outstanding .613 compared to the Golden Eagles .259. The Racers never looked back continuing with a clip of .469 in the second, and .560 in the final set.

Junior Cody Dodd put down 10 kills for the Golden Eagles. Redshirt sophomore Alyssa Povey added six kills, and freshman Kellie Williams added five. Sophomore Sharon Anderson dished out 24 assists and senior Courtney Smith scooped up a team-high 10 digs.

Murray State had four players with double-digit kills, led by Scottie Ingram who had 15. Taylor Olden put away 12, while Alyssa Lelm and Kristen Besselsen each put down 10. Setter Sam Bedard dished out 45 assists for the Racers.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Belmont and Tennessee State for the second meetings of the season.
