In-state rivals visit Eblen Center for pair of weekend matches

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Fresh off their recent Ohio Valley Conference road trip to Kentucky and Missouri, the Golden Eagle volleyball team will look to get back into the win column as they host a pair of in-state rivals in Tennessee State and Austin Peay.

TTU opens the week with the Tennessee State Tigers Friday, with the opening serve set for 7 p.m.  TSU enters the weekend the owner of a 7-4 record and a 3-1 mark in OVC play. The Tigers are also riding a three-match winning streak with wins over Eastern Kentucky, SIU Edwardsville and Eastern Illinois.

Tech leads the all-time series against TSU with a 34-7 record, with each team winning its home match last season. Shaquita Williams leads the Tiger offense with 156 kills, while Erika Moss has dished out a team-high 405 assists. Britani Hathorn leads the Tigers on defense with 163 digs.

Tech wraps up the week with a 2 p.m. match against Austin Peay. APSU owns a 2-13 record on the season, and is still looking for its first OVC victory sporting an 0-4 mark in conference play. The Lady Govs enter the week on an eight-match losing streak, with their last win coming against East Tennessee State.

TTU owns the all-time series edge with a mark of 48-24, but APSU has won the last five meetings between the Golden Eagles and the Lady Govs. Running the APSU offense is Cami Fields, who has tallied 551 assists. Three APSU players have tallied at least 110 kills, with Nikki Doyle leading the way with 192.

Along with welcoming in Austin Peay, Tech will also welcome former Golden Eagle Leah Meffert, now an assistant coach for the Lady Govs. During her four-year career at TTU, Meffert became the all-time leader in kills with 1,734 and received four all-OVC nods.

Admission is free for all of Tech’s regular season matches in Eblen Center.
