Golden Eagle rally falls short at Southeast Missouri

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Golden Eagles went to Southeast Missouri  and gave a good showing, but it was the Redhawks that came out on top as they took the 3-1 victory.

After a rough opening set that went the way of SEMO 25-18, the Golden Eagles found new life in the second set. The second frame featured three lead changes as both teams were tied at 18 late in the set. The Redhawks were finally able to hold the Golden Eagles off as they finished the set on a 7-2 run to take the second set 25-20.

After their good showing in the second set, TTU came into the third set with new life as they opened the set with an 8-2 lead. The Golden Eagles would eventually build a nine-point lead at 19-10, and they would not look back at they took the set 25-20.

The Redhawks, not wanting to go to a deciding fifth set opened the fourth set with a quick 10-3 as they eventually took the set 25-12, and the match.

Freshman Ellen Conti led the Golden Eagle offense with 13 kills, with junior Kelsey Gray following with eight. Allison May tallied a match-high 25 digs, while junior Madison Comperry added 19 assists.

TTU (1-13, 0-3 OVC) returns home Friday, for a 7 p.m. match, against Tennessee State.
