Golden Eagles wrap up season at home against Eastern Kentucky, Morehead State

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- After a tough road trip the Tennessee Tech volleyball team returns home for its final two matches of the season as it hosts Eastern Kentucky Friday, at 7 p.m., and Morehead State Saturday, at 2 p.m.

With the 2011 season wrapping up several Golden Eagles have been making their climb into the Tech record books, with none standing out more than sophomore Allison May.

May, who joined TTU last season, recently recorded her 1,000th career dig, when she tallied 16 at Eastern Illinois on Nov. 4. She is the first player to reach 1,000 career digs at Tech since Katie Kenline reached that mark in the 2007 season.

With 1,000 career digs, May now sits just 472 digs behind Melanie Marshall and Meredith Ferlic for fifth on the all-time digs list at Tech.

Junior Kelsey Gray is also making her presence felt in the TTU record books as well. With her most recent 11 total blocks last weekend, Gray moved into fifth place all-time at Tennessee Tech in total blocks with 342, and now sits just nine total blocks behind Bilyana Trikko for fourth on the all-time total blocks list.

Currently sitting third on the team in kills this season with 215, Gray had a solid weekend on offense as she tallied 20 kills, to go along with 11 total blocks. Sophomore Natalie Penrod tallied 21 kills as well, while freshman Courtney Smith led the team in digs with 26.

The Colonels enter the weekend sitting in sixth place in the Ohio Valley Conference standings with an overall record of 14-15 and a 9-9 conference mark. Ashley Edmond leads EKU on offense with 369 kills and she is followed closely by Hanna Burkle, who is second on the team in kills with 324.

TTU has a total of 19 all-time victories over the Colonels, but EKU managed to win their first meeting this season, 3-0.

Boasting a 22-6 record, and a 17-1 OVC record, the Morehead State Eagles have already claimed their second consecutive OVC championship. The Golden Eagles own 17 all-time victories over MSU, but the Golden Eagles lost their first meeting with Morehead State this season, 3-0.

Ellie Roberson leads the Eagles on offense with 383 kills. Caitlin Clark has run the MSU offense, dishing out 1,097 assists, while Laura McDermott has put up a wall at the net, notching 97 total blocks.
