Cookeville native Cody Dodd signs with Tennessee Tech

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- Cookeville native Cody Dodd has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Tennessee Tech for the upcoming 2012 season.

“It’s just a weight off my shoulders,” Dodd said. “It’s a good program and I just want to be a part of it.”

A versatile player, standing at 6-4, Dodd has put together a fine career at Cookeville High School, while playing as an outside hitter, middle blocker and on the right side during her final season under head coach Jackie Cox.

“I definitely think Cody is going be a contributor to the program,” Cox said. “With her height and ability, and she’s got a lot to still learn, then having someone in her hometown, I think that’s a steal for Tech.”

Dodd is TTU head coach John Blair’s first signee of the 2011 signing period and will join a Tech volleyball squad that featured no seniors a year ago.

“We’re excited to sign a Cookeville student-athlete to our volleyball team,” Blair said. “Her presence at 6-4 should allow her to have an immediate impact on the team and in the Ohio Valley Conference.”

During her junior and senior seasons, Dodd helped her team to a combined 60-36 record and has not lost a set in District 6AAA play since she joined the team. During her senior season she put up some impressive numbers including 592 kills, 262 digs, 76 aces, while maintaining a .344 hitting percentage.

Dodd helped guide her team to four district championships and two regional titles, while being named the District 6AAA Most Valuable Player on three occasions.

“We signed her because we feel she can help us win championships and that fits in with what we are trying to do at Tech,” Blair said.
