Lady Govs outlast Golden Eagles

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- After an emotional victory Friday night against Tennessee State, the Tennessee Tech volleyball team was not able to keep its momentum going Saturday as it fell to the Austin Peay Lady Govs in three sets.

Despite a pair of rough showings in the first and third sets, the Golden Eagles made the most of the second set. Both teams were tied midway through the set at 14, with TTU coming back from a 14-11 deficit.

APSU was able to extend its second set lead to five at 23-18, but TTU answered right back with four straight points to pull within one. The Lady Govs were able to withstand Tech's late set charge as they ultimately took the set 25-23.

Junior Kelsey Gray led the Golden Eagles in offense with 11 kills, with sophomore Natalie Penrod following close behind with nine. Junior Madison Comperry added 27 assists, while sophomore Allison May tallied a match-high 22 digs.

On the other side of the net, Nikki Doyle paced APSU on offense and defense as she posted 15 kills and 15 digs, while Cami Fields dished out 40 assists.

TTU (2-14, 1-5 OVC) wraps up its three-match homestand Tuesday, at 6 p.m., against Jacksonville State.
