COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech indoor track and
field season kicks off this weekend as the Golden Eagles head to
the Saluki Fast Start Meet at Southern Illinois University. The
meet will take place all day Saturday at the SIU Recreation
Center.
"This is our first track meet of the year, and all the girls on the team are excited to get the season started," said head coach Tony Cox. "They have been training all fall, so they are ready to see what they can do. This is usually a good meet for us. It is a low pressure meet and will serve as a good benchmark for the rest of the season."
The Saluki Fast Start Meet marks the first time Claire Cashin, Rebecca
Duarte, Brittany McGee, Jaelyn
Todd, Sarah
Wilson, and Atlanta
Westbrook will don the purple and gold for the Golden Eagles.
Two of those rookies, Duarte and Westbrook, will each compete in
four events. Duarte will compete in the 200m, 60-meter hurdles,
long jump and triple jump. Westbrook is in the 400m, 4x400 relay,
long and triple jumps.
Chelsea Mills, however, is slated to be the busiest
Golden Eagles. The sophomore from Chattanooga is entered in five
events Saturday -- 60m, 200m, 4x400 relay, ling jump and triple
jump.
Five Golden Eagles are in three events each. That group includes
Cashin, Brittany McGee, Brittany Cotto, Kelli
Keck, and Brooklyn Kimball.
This will be the first of four indoor meets before the Golden Eagles head to the Ohio Valley Conference indoor championship meet held on Feb. 28 and Mar. 1.
