Meet Schedule
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech track & field team is set to enter it's first competition of the new year this weekend as it heads to East Tennessee State to compete in the Niswonger Foundation Invitational on Friday and Saturrday. Friday's events will start at 9 a.m CT, while Saturday will start at 7 a.m. with a rolling schedule.
This meet will provide an opportunity to compete against a couple of Ohio Valley Conference opponents, as Austin Peay and Tennessee State will also be attending.
Returning a majority of the squad this season, head coach Tony Cox looks to build off the experience of his upper classmen.
The strongest projected group returning is the jumping corps. Leading the way will be sophomore Chelsea Mills, who has two new school records under her belt, setting Tech marks in the triple and long jumps in December at Southern Illinois. Mills is joined by senior Kelli Keck, senior Erin Keyes, and sophomore Atlanta Westbrook.
The largest unit of competitors is the distance squad who will have 11 different athletes competing with each other for the spots in meets. Seniors Rebecca Cline and Peri Winborne are looking to pave the way as they both are coming off of strong cross country seasons this past fall. Cline earned the MVP award for her efforts in the cross country season.
Wrapping up the events will be the sprinting corps. Junior Brooklyn Kimball looks to take charge of the sprinters and hurdlers this year. Six different athletes will compete in the sprinting and hurdling events which range from the 60m dash to the 400m race. Look for some of the Tech jumpers to make appearances in the sprinting events, as well.
The Golden Eagles will participate in two more indoor meets following the ETSU action before the Ohio Valley Conference Championships on the weekend of February 28 - March 1.
