COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Tech track & field team heads to the SIU Invitational at Southern Illinois University this weekend. The meet will take place Friday, starting at 4 p.m. CT, and Saturday, starting at 10 a.m., at the SIU Recreation Center.

The Golden Eagles competed at SIU earlier this indoor season and will be looking to continue it's luck there. It was the first event of the indoor track season for coach Tony Cox's team, and Tennessee Tech sophomore Chelsea Mills set two school records, one in the triple jump and one in the long jump.

The second-year speedster from Chattanooga had narrowly missed both records last year during the indoor season. First, she went 36 feet, 11.5 inches in the triple jump to eclipse the school record by one-half inch. A little later, she cleared 17 feet, 5.5 inches in the long jump to beat the previous standard by three-quarters of an inch.

The Golden Eagles will be trying to improve upon a solid performance last weekend at Tennessee State where they saw six different athletes record career-bests.

The SIU Invitational will give 23 Golden Eagle athletes one last opportunity to get out the kinks before heading back to TSU for the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championship.
