Golden Eagles open up OVC play at EKU, Morehead State

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech tennis team opens up Ohio Valley Conference play this weekend as the team heads to Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State.

The Golden Eagles head into OVC play with a 2-10 non-conferne record, most recently falling to Winthrop and Georgia State.

Freshman Eduardo Mena owns the top record for the Golden Eagles so far this season from the No. 3 spot. The Buitrago del Lozoya, Spain native has an 8-4 record in dual matches, and is currently on a four-match winning streak.

SETTING THE STAGE
Tech heads into the weekend with a 49-19 lead over the EKU Colonels all-time. However, since 2009, EKU holds the better hand with a 6-2-match record, including a 5-2 Tech loss last season.  TTU's history with Morehead is different, as Tech holds a 39-11 advantage all-time, and is currently on an eight-match winning streak since 2006, including a 5-2 win last season.

The Colonels currently are 6-5 on the season, with a 5-2 home record. Sophomore Sebastian Mueller leads EKU so far this season in singles matches at 6-3, playing a majority of his matches at the No. 4 spot.

Morehead State is currently 2-7, but 2-2 at home. The Eagles are led by Gabriel Ruiz and Ritchie Kruunenberg, who hold a 5-3 record at the No. 1 doubles spot.  Kruunenberg also hold a 3-5 record in the No. 1 singles spot.

In the OVC preseason rankings, Tech was picked to finish fourth, while EKU was picked right behind the Golden Eagles in fifth. Morehead follows in seventh.
