Golden Eagles top Jackrabbits in first home match of 2015

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Tech tennis team hosted South Dakota State on Saturday afternoon, opening up the 2015 home season on a positive note, winning 6-1. 

The Golden Eagles swept the doubles play to open the day. Junior Alex Arovin and sophomore Alberto Esteban teamed up to defeat Parker Lawley and Andrea Boglic, 8-5, in the one's match up.

In the second doubles match, freshman Eduardo Mena and junior Alvaro Cintas paired to defeat SDSU's Gary Notkin and Mateus Moreira, 8-3. 

Freshmen Carlos Tajes and Jorge Alfonzo defeated Jonny Higham and Lovro Curcija, 8-7.

In the singles competion, Esteban finished up his match first, topping Henrique Pereira, 6-2, 6-1. Following him, Mena topped Lawley, 6-3, 6-2, in the three's spot. 

Tech swepted the no. 4, 5, and 6 spots, as Cintas topped Curcija, 6-1, 63. Tajes bested Moreira, 6-2, 6-2, and Alfonzo beat Notkin to seal the deal, 6-5, 6-3.

Arovin faced Boglic in the no. 1 spot, for what was the most competitive match of the afternoon. Arovin won the first set 6-2, but fell 7-6 in the second before heading to a tiebreaker set. Boglic bested Arovin to steal SDSU's one point on the afternoon, 2-6, 7-6,10-6.

The Golden Eagles are back in action on Monday as they head to Winthrop for an 11 a.m. match.
