Kennesaw State wins final two points for 5-2 victory Sunday


ACWORTH, Ga. -- After pulling to within a point at 3-2, the Tennessee Tech tennis team wasn't able to add any more and dropped a 5-2 non-conference match to Kennesaw State Sunday afternoon at Kennworth Park.
 
The doubles point went to Kennesaw as Manuel Castellanos and Alejandro Valencia defeated Eduardo Mena and Alvaro Cintas by an 8-4 at No. 2, and Jorge Wilton and Simon Pritchard topped Artem Tarasov and Jorge Alfonzo by an 8-0 count in the No. 3 spot.

The Owls (2-5) opened a 3-0 lead, posting singles wins in the No. 1 and No. 4 courts. In the top spot, Simon Pritchard defeated Alex Arovin, 6-4, 6-0, and at No. 4, it was David Bouchillon earning a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Alvaro Cintas.
 
The Golden Eagles (1-8) captured the next two points, closing the match to 3-2. First off, it was Eduardo Mena sweeping to a 7-6, 6-1 win over Manuel Castellanos in the No. 3 spot. Shortly after, Jorge Alfonzo wrapped up a 7-5, 6-4 win over Jorge Wilton.

Alberto Esteban gave it a good run in the No. 2 spot, fighting to tie the match, before dropping a three-set battle to Alejandro Valencia. The match went to the Owls when Valencia closed out a 6-5, 4-6, 6-4 victory.
 
Carlos Tejas claimed the first set in the No. 5 match, but David Durham battled back to win the next two and completed the match with a 3-6, 7-6, 7-6 win.

Tech will play its first home match of the year when South Dakota State visits the Tech campus courts Saturday (March 7) for an 11 a.m. contest. After that, Tech returns to Atlanta to face Winthrop on a neutral court on Monday (March 9) at noon.
