Tech tops visiting JSU Gamecocks, 4-0

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech tennis team played their final home match of the season on Tuesday afternoon, topping visiting Jacksonville State, 4-0.

The Golden Eagles wrapped up the 2015 home season undefeated following the win over JSU, and moved to 6-1 in Ohio Valley Conference play.

Tech opened up the afternoon, winning the doubles point, with wins in the No. 1 and 3 matches. Junior Alex Arovin and sophomore Alberto Esteban bested Jeff Wendler-Filho and Pedro Wagner, 8-5, in the No. 1 spot.

In the No. 3 spot, freshmen Eduardo Mena and Jorge Alfonzo topped Dylan Gee and Mathias Chaim, 8-3.

The rainy afternoon left four different matches unfinished, the No. 2 doubles, and the No. 3, 4, and 5 singles matches.

In the No. 1 singles, Arovin beat Wendler-Filho 6-2, 6-3.

Mena took down Mathias Chaim, 6-2, 6-3, in the No. 2 spot, for his 11th-straight win. Alfonzo also picked up a win, topping Felipe Diaz, 6-1, 6-1, in the No. 6 match.

The Golden Eagles wrap up the regular season this upcoming weekend with a Friday match at Murray State at 12 p.m. CT, and on Saturday at OVC leader, Austin Peay, at 11 a.m. CT.
