MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team kept itself in the hunt for the top spot at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships Monday afternoon, sitting just nine shot back of the top spot at the Fighting Joe Course at The Shoals.
The Golden Eagles posted a 293 over its second 18 holes of the week, totaling 578 through the first two rounds to sit fourth among the 11 teams competing for the league title. UT Martin jumped into the lead after producing a 283 for a 569 total score, sitting two shots ahead of Belmont. The Skyhawks' Jack Story took sole control of the individual leaderboard, turning in his second 68 of the tournament for a 136.
Tech saw Cookeville native Will Brooks pounce to the top of its rankings, tying for seventh through 36 holes with a 144 backed by a pair of even-par 72s. The senior racked up four birdies on the day with 10 pars.
Matching his teammate for the low round of the day for the Golden Eagles was junior Chance Taylor, who carded an even-par 72 for a 146 total. After registering 14 pars and a pair of birdies, the Gate City, Va. native moved into a tie for 13th with a pair of his teammates.
Also tied for 13th were freshman Mark McDearman and senior Bracton Womack, both wrapping up the day at 146 for their total scores. Womack finished the day with a 2-over 74 with four birdies while McDearman totaled 14 pars for a 3-over 75.
Rounding out the day for the purple and gold was junior Bryce Beeler, tying for 28th overall with a score of 150. The Tech veteran posted an 80 on the day after carding a 2-under 70 on Sunday.
Round three of the OVC Championships is slated to begin with tee times starting at 8:00 a.m. CT on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles will kick off their day at 9:30 a.m.
