Four top-15 performances propel Tech to third-place finish at Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – It was a third-place finish for the Tennessee Tech men's golf team Tuesday at the eighth annual Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate, as the Golden Eagles fired a round-low 282 while competing on the River Course at Sevierville Golf Club.

The Golden Eagles finished with an 853 for the weekend, just two shots back of Ohio Valley Conference rivals Morehead State and UT Martin. The two programs tied for the team lead, forcing a playoff that last two holes. It was Morehead State coming out on top, claiming the victory among the 15-team field. UT Martin's Nick Wolf took home individual medalist honors, turning in a 68-67-69=204.

A pair of Golden Eagles claimed All-Tournament nods on the day, with sophomore Nick Sutton and senior Bracton Womack tying each other for fifth place among 77 individuals. Sutton carded a personal-best 212 while tying his career-low round of 68 on Tuesday. Womack also posted a 212, just one stroke shy of his career-best performance, using rounds of 70, 72 and 70.

Rookie Mark McDearman closed out his first collegiate tournament with a top-10 finish, tying for ninth after a 69-72-73=214. Just one shot back of his teammate, junior Chance Taylor fired a 215 behind scores of 72, 72 and 71 to tie for 11th overall.

Concluding Tech's lineup tied for 46th was sophomore Sean Anderson. The second-year man tallied a 225 after rounds of 72, 79 and 74. 

Competing as individuals for the purple and gold were Tech veterans Will Brooks and Dabney Dickenson. A senior, Brooks tied for 15th after carding a 70-70-76=216 while the redshirt senior Dickenson produced a 223 with scores of 76, 75 and 72.

The Golden Eagles will return to the links Monday, Mar. 29 and Tuesday, Mar. 30 at The National Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee, competing in The National Intercollegiate in Greensboro, Ga.
