COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- For the second time in his career, Tennessee Tech senior golfer Greg Kitts was named the Gilbert Darcy Most Valuable Player after the 2012-13 team awards were announced by head coach Polk Brown.
The MVP award is named to honor the father of former TTU golf captain Randy Darcy.
Kitts played in a team-high 33 rounds of golf over 12 events this season, carding an average of 76.15.
Freshman Bryce Kendrick picked up three honors, being named winner of the Most Improved Player and Long Hitter awards. The Powell, Tenn., native also earned the Low Average title, shooting a 75.26 average over his 19 rounds. Comparing his first tournament of the fall to his last of the spring, Kendrick improved by 16 strokes. His two lowest rounds of his freshman campaign came at the Tennessee State Big Blue Intercollegiate, where he carded rounds of 70 and 71 en route to finishing two-under-par.
The Most Dedicated Player award was given to a four-year competitor, senior Lee Maxwell. The Cookeville native was instrumental in Tech winning the Ohio Valley Conference Sportsmanship Award this season and demonstrated superb leadership for the team.
Tech's Impact Award was split between three newcomers, sophomore Lee Whitehead and freshmen Mitchell Thomas and Adam Cunningham. Thomas was also named the Best Putter on the squad.
Kitts and Maxwell were named team captains by Brown, as the senior duo mentored the young team throughout the year.
