Thomas leads Tech through day one at Red Wolf Intercollegiate

JONESBORO, Ark. -- Freshman Mitch Thomas's second-round 71 was one of the lowest scores on the day at the Red Wolf Intercollegiate Monday to lead the Tennessee Tech men's golf team. He sits in 29th out of 112 golfers with one round to play.

The Knoxville native carded a 77+71=148 through the first two rounds at the Ridgepointe Country Club. Senior Lee Maxwell improved his first-round 81 by nine strokes for a 72 in round two to score 153 on the day, tied for second on the team with freshman Bryce Kendrick (79+74). Sophomores Lee Whitehead and Maxx Verble each scored 158 on Monday. Senior Greg Kitts, competing individually, carded a 75+74=149 to tie for 37th. 

The Golden Eagles sit in 16th, but are just ten strokes out of the top ten. Ohio Valley Conference rivals Austin Peay and Belmont are in first and second place, respectively. Host Arkansas State is in a tie for 5th with Arkansas-Little Rock. 

Play is scheduled to continue with round three Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. at the par 72 course. A full recap will be posted to TTUSports.com when results are in.
