Kitts, Golden Eagles in tenth after first round at Samford Intercollegiate

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Junior Greg Kitts shot even-par to lead the Tennessee Tech men's golf team at the Samford Intercollegiate on Monday. Kitts is three strokes off the lead, tied for tenth, after carding a 37-35=72 at the Hoover Country Club.

The Golden Eagles sit in tenth place out of 18 following the first round of the tournament. Kitts' 72 leads Tech, followed by freshman Adam Cunningham's 74 and senior Lee Maxwell's 76. Sophomore Lee Whitehead and freshman Bryce Kendrick each shot 80 on the day.

Tech is tied for tenth with Western Carolina, and leads eight teams including fellow Ohio Valley Conference schools UT Martin (T-12th), Belmont (T-12th) and Murray State (15th). Eastern Kentucky is currently in seventh place.

All of the teams were scheduled to play two rounds today, but were unable to finish after frost delayed the start by more than an hour Monday morning. Players will finish their second rounds and play a third on Tuesday to conclude the tourney.
