Whitehead earns All-Tournament at Grover Page Classic

JACKSON, Tenn. -- Sophomore Lee Whitehead finished with a 73+75+71=219 to tie for fourth place as the Tennessee Tech men's golf team finished seventh at the Grover Page Classic Tuesday.

The Knoxville, Tenn. native shot eleven birdies while competing individually over the three-round tournament. Whitehead's fourth-place finish is a career-best, while his third-round 71 ties his career high, set in September at the Mason Rudolph Championship.

As a team, the Golden Eagles carded a 915 on the week, just one stroke back of Ohio Valley Conference rival Morehead State. Freshman Adam Cunningham led the squad with a 75+74+76=225 and led the 75-player field in par-3 scoring, averaging 2.83 strokes/hole.

Cunningham was followed by fellow freshmen Bryce Kendrick and Mitchell Thomas, who each carded a 230, tying for 24th in the tournament. Senior Greg Kitts improved his first round score by 12 strokes and finished tied for 29th with an 83+78+71=232.

Tech's next challenge comes March 18-19 as it hosts the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate in Sevierville, Tenn. More information will be posted on TTUSports.com before the tournament.
