Taking Manhattan: Golden Eagles to face Big 12 foe Kansas State

COMPLETE GAME NOTES

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Twenty-five years after their first visit to Manhattan to face the Wildcats, the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagle football team returns to Kansas State this weekend to play the first of two games in 2009 against BCS opponents.

Coincidentally, his third year at the Tech helm is also Watson Brown’s 25th season as a collegiate head coach. He has not faced KSU as a head coach, but has played the Wildcats twice during his years as offensive coordinator at Oklahoma.

Tech is the second FCS opponent that Kansas State will host, after disposing of UMass in the season opener, 21-17.

The Golden Eagles journey to Kansas a little short-handed on offense, with runningbacks Henry Sailes and Tremaine Hudson both out of action following injuries last weekend. In addition, starting quarterback Lee Sweeney is questionable.

The Golden Eagle defense did an outstanding job last week at Eastern Kentucky, allowing just 10 points in a 17-7 loss to the two-time defending Ohio Valley Conference champs. Tech heads to Kansas State with a 1-1 overall record.

The Wildcats, meanwhile, are 1-2 following a 23-9 setback to powerful UCLA on the road last Saturday.
