OVC title chase resumes when Golden Eagles visit JSU

Golden Eagle game notes vs. JSU (PDF)

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- What could be the most important game facing the Tennessee Tech football team in a decade looms on Saturday when third-year coach Watson Brown takes the Golden Eagles to Jacksonville State for a noon contest in Paul Snow Memorial Stadium.

While the ranked Gamecocks aren’t eligible for the Ohio Valley Conference title in 2009, the Golden Eagles are in the thick of the race with two weeks remaining.

Tech (5-4/4-2 OVC) is within one game of league-leading Eastern Illinois.

The Golden Eagles have not had much success in Jacksonville, winning just once in five visits.

The Gamecocks (6-3/4-1 OVC) rank first in the conference in scoring offense, scoring defense, total offense and total defense, pass offense and pass defense, and turnover margin.

Like Tech, the Gamecocks have played two games this year against FBS foes. The Gamecocks opened the year with a 37-17 loss at Georgia Tech, then nearly upset Florida State a week later before losing, 19-9.

JSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux leads the OVC in both total offense and passing, but the Gamecocks have put together a solid defense to go with their explosive offense. Alexander Henderson tops the league in tackles, T.J. Heath is first in the OVC in passes defended and Monte Lewis is ranked first in fumbles forced.

Fans can listen to the game on the Golden Eagle Sports Network or on Free Teamline via the Internet or telephone. The contest will also be streamed ive on OVCsports.TV.
