COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Tech will officially accept the
2009 Sgt. York Trophy next Spring, after the Golden Eagles swept to
a 3-0 record against the three in-state schools in the Ohio Valley
Conference. Tech clinched the Trophy last Saturday with a 20-13
victory over Tennessee State.
Monday, during the weekly Football Insider’s Lunch, Golden
Eagle head coach Watson Brown received a “stand-in”
trophy to fill the space for the York Trophy until the official
presentation – a solid chocolate football!
The football was provided by former Golden Eagle track standout
Steve Arnold, and his California-based chocolate company,
Chocolates a la carte. The full-sized football features a Tennessee
Tech logo and an OVC logo.
It’s questionable whether the chocolate football will
survive intact until the York presentation in the Spring. In fact,
it’s doubtful the chocolate football will make it to the end
of the week.
Fans are invited to attend the weekly Football Insider's Lunch,
held each Monday from 11:45 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Eagles' Nest
of Eblen Center. Fans are asked to call by Friday noon to reserve a
space for the following Monday. Call (931) 372-3949 for lunch
reservations. The cost is $10 per person.
