Game notes Tech vs. UTM (PDF)

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Lee Sweeney has just one more record to break, and chances are pretty strong that the senior quarterback will get it Saturday when Tennessee Tech (2-2/1-1 OVC) visits UT Martin at 2 p.m. in Hardy Graham Stadium.

Sweeney needs to pass for just five yards against the Skyhawks (2-3/1-1 OVC) to claim the Tech record for most passing yards in his career. He already owns the school marks for most completions, attempts and touchdown passes, as well as most yards of total offense.

The game is Tech’s second toward the 2009 Sgt. York Trophy, coming on the heels of a 31-23 victory over Austin Peay last Saturday in Tucker Stadium. In that game, Sweeney passed for 234 yards and three touchdowns. Two of those scoring tosses went to junior Antonio Robinson, who nabbed career-highs of nine passes for 130 yards.

UT Martin is coming off a lopsided 52-7 loss to Jacksonville State last week, but the Skyhawks have won three of the last four against the Golden Eagles. UT Martin rolled to a 35-7 victory over Tech last year in Cookeville, holding Sweeney to 97 passing yards.

In addition to Sweeney going after the passing record, two other Golden Eagles are on the brink of milestones. Sophomore Tim Benford needs 22 receiving yards to reach 1,000, while sophomore Tremaine Hudson needs 13 yards to hit 1,000 all-purpose yards.

Lee Sweeney, left, has shredded the Tech record book during his career.
