LEDBETTER, Ky. - It didn't take long for the young members of the Tennessee Tech women's golf team to make their prescence felt in the 2013-14 season as the newest members of the Golden Eagle squad have contributed in a big way on the first day of the Drake Creek Invitational.

Tech, which started two true freshmen at the 54-hole event hosted by Ohio Valley Conference rival Murray State, can certainly look forward to the growth of its youngest members as freshmen Lydia Triplett and Whitney Robertson helped spark a fourth-place finish to the first day of the fall season.

Triplett shot a first-round 75 followed by a second-round 79 to card 154 overall through the first 36 holes of the event. Robertson also played well, carding a first-round 85 before settling down for a second-round 77 for a two-round total of 162.

Starting exactly where she left off a season ago, sophomore Maddi Everts led the Golden Eagles in the first day of action, totaling a 153 on rounds of 76 and 77. The score, which was good enough to tie her for ninth through the first two rounds, helped the Tech squad to a team score of 630 and a fourth place ranking with just one more round to go.

Sophomores Megan Williamson and Allison Geer also played well during the first day of action, totaling scores of 162 and 164, respectively.

The Golden Eagles will look to make chase to third-place Belmont on Day Two of the tournament as the Bruins own a 14-stroke advantage over the Tech squad. The final round shotgun will begin at approximately 8:30 a.m. CDT Tuesday morning.
