LAS VEGAS, Nev. – In its first experience out west, the Tennessee Tech women's golf team performed admirably Tuesday morning, battling the harsh winds of Las Vegas to grab third place in the Bison Invitational.

Led by freshman Whitney Robertson, the Golden Eagles carded an overall score of 673 for the event, finishing behind Long Island and tournament champion Lynn University. Robertson tied for ninth overall with a two-round score of 166, carding a second-round 89. All scores on the second day of action were inflated due to rough weather conditions.

Freshman Lydia Triplett did well despite the unfavorable weather, scoring a team-low 87 for the day to finish 12th in the tournament with 168. Maddi Everts finished just one stroke behind her teammate with an overall final of 196. The sophomore tied for 13th overall with a first-round 79 and second-round 90.

Sophomores Megan Williamson and Allison Geer wrapped up the scoring for the Golden Eagles helping to make every Tech participant finish in the top 25. Williamson tied for 15th overall with a 170 thanks to rounds of 82 and 88.

As for Geer, the sophomore finished in a tie for 21st with a two-round final of 175. She wrapped up play with a 90 on Tuesday after carding an 85 on Monday.

The Golden Eagles gathered their third top five finish of the year and their first of the spring season.

Tech will now prepare to host the second ever Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate, beginning Monday, Mar. 17 in Sevierville, Tenn. The Golden Eagles will enter as defending champions of the event, winning the inaugural tournament last year.
