WAYNESVILLE, N.C. - The Tennessee Tech women's golf team was at it again Monday morning, playing the first round of the 36-hole Great Smokies Intercollegiate. Hosted by Western Carolina, the par 72 event takes place at the Waynesville Inn - Golf Resort & Spa.

After an hour-long delay of play due to fog, the young Golden Eagle team showed some early struggles with the 5,932 yard course, combining for a 315 over the first 18 holes of the tournament. But if history has anything to say about how things finish in the second half tomorrow, Tech will be just fine after having finished sixth in last year's edition of the event.

Leading the way on Day One for the Golden Eagles was freshman Lydia Triplett, carding a 77 to tie for 36th. Sophomores Maddi Everts and Allison Geer each posted 79s on the first day, tying for 43rd.

Freshman Whitney Robertson (pictured above) rebounded nicely after a front-nine 45, torching the back-nine for a team-best 35 and an 80 overall. She currently sits 50th overall. Sophomore Megan Williamson finished just one shot back of Robertson, carding an 81 to tie for 51st in the early action.

With another 18 holes still to play on Tuesday, the Golden Eagles know this tournament is still up for grabs and will look to make a major play on Day Two at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate. Play will begin with a shotgun start set for 8 a.m. CDT.
