COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech soccer coach Becky Fletcher announced this week that she is stepping down as head coach of the Golden Eagles after two seasons. Fletcher has accepted the top assistant coaching position at the University of Mississippi.

“I want to thank Mark Wilson and the administration at Tennessee Tech for the opportunity to lead a wonderful program,” Fletcher said. “This was a really difficult decision. I wish the university and the program nothing but the best. The young ladies who make up this Tech team are a special group of young ladies. I know they have a really bright future ahead of them and I will be following their successes closely.”

Fletcher recently completed her second season as Tech’s head coach, guiding a youthful Golden Eagle squad to the championship match at the Ohio Valley Conference tournament.

A national search will begin immediately to find Tech’s next soccer head coach, according to Director of Athletics Mark Wilson.

“Becky Fletcher has been a valued member of our staff and has developed our soccer program into one that can compete for OVC championships,” Wilson said. “We wish her all the best in her future pursuits and thank her for her dedicated service to Tennessee Tech soccer.”

Fletcher returned to Tennessee Tech in 2008 as head coach, coming back to a program where she first served as an assistant coach from 1999 to 2001.

In her first season at Tech, Fletcher led the Golden Eagles to a 3-4-1 conference record and their first Ohio Valley Conference tournament appearance in five years. Last fall, the Golden Eagles posted a 3-3-2 mark in OVC play, and advanced through the OVC Tournament to the title match with upset victories over Eastern Illinois and Morehead State.

Fletcher spent five seasons as an assistant coach at Auburn before taking over the top role with the Tech soccer program.
