MOREHEAD, Ky. -- With under a minute and a half to play in the
second overtime, OVC Co-Freshman of the Year Kris Cambron's shot
from the right side sailed over Morehead State goalkeeper Lily
Meisner's head and into the net to break a 1-1 tie and put the
Golden Eagles into the OVC champinoship game, as Tech beat Morehead
State 2-1. Tech will face the winner of UT Martin and Murray State
in the championship game on Sunday at 12 p.m. CST with the winner
advancing to the NCAA tournament.
Cambron was a first-team All-OVC selection and a member of the OVC all-newcomer team.
Morehead State won the OVC regular season championship and is hosting the tournament.
The Golden Eagles got on the board in the second half to break a scoreless tie when freshman Andrea Meloff, who was also named to the all-newsomer team, beat Meisner from inside the box. Morehead State tied the game with under ten minutes to play in regulation, and neither team could find the net in the first overtime period. Neither of Tech's goals were assisted.
For the second consecutive night the Golden Eagles won in double-overtime. Tech topped Eastern Illinois Thursday night behind Jen Hoffman's hat trick.
The last time the Golden Eagles were in the OVC championship game
was 2000, when they claimed the league title and advanced to the
NCAA tournament.
Tech goalkeeper Kaitlyn Thacker made three saves, including a diving save in the second half that prevented Morehead State from getting on the scoreboard with the game was tied 0-0.
Tech finished the game with 10 total shots, including four shots on goal. Hoffman had five shots, Cambron had two and Taren Brown, Brooke Mayo and Meloff each had one. Morehead State out-shot the Golden Eagles 16-10.
