COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee Tech goalkeeper Kaitlyn Thacker posted her fourth career shutout and first of the season as the Golden Eagles battled Ohio Valley Conference foe Morehead State to a 0-0 tie in Cookeville on Sunday.

Thacker had eight saves in the match, including one in the second overtime frame as the Golden Eagles move to 3-8-2 overall and 2-1-1 in OVC play.

"I felt like our back line did a great job, and Kaitlyn did a great job today," Tech head coach Becky Fletcher said. "The team really fought and there was no let down."

Morehead State outshot Tech 12-6 in the match, including an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. Taren Brown, Kris Cambron and Michelle Decker each had a shot at the net for Tech.

It was the second straight overtime match for Tech, as the Golden Eagles knocked off Eastern Kentucky in overtime on Friday. Tech is now 2-0-2 in overtime matches this season. It was the fourth time this season Tech has shutout its opponent.

"It feels good that we can hold on throughout overtime and we don't let up," Tech freshman Kerri Reid said, who played all 110 minutes. "It's do-or-die time and we can't let up now. We've got to keep going forward and step it up."

Lily Meisner posted the shutout for Morehead State, finishing with three saves, as the Eagles move to 5-6-2 overall and 2-0-1 in OVC play.

"I feel like we're competing with every team," Fletcher said. "We got a complete effort today. I think if we can put a couple more pieces of the puzzle together then we're going to peak at the right time. We're getting better everyday, and I'd say we took a huge step forward today."

The Golden Eagles are now half way through their OVC schedule and sit in the top three in the league standings. Tech will host a non-conference match against Longwood on Oct. 8 before the home finale against Austin Peay on Oct. 11. The match against Austin Peay will be Tech's senior day, as Tech senior Brittany Rogers will be honored.

Tech's match with Longwood begins at 4 p.m. Admission to all Tech home soccer matches is free.

The Golden Eagles have OVC road matches at Eastern Illinois, Southeast Missouri and Jacksonville State remaining, and will also visit Lipscomb in a non-conference meeting before the OVC tournament Nov. 3-8. The league's top six teams advance to the conference tournament, which will be hosted by the regular season champion.
