LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Tennessee Tech soccer team wrapped up its
seven-game road trip Sunday with its second match at the University
of Kentucky Tournament, falling to host Kentucky 3-0 in
Lexington.
The Wildcats got on the board in the tenth minute when Stefani
Kildare netted her only shot of the match. Kirsten Robinson scored
for Kentucky in the 23rd minute, and UK took a 2-0 lead into
halftime. Jenna Goblirsch added the Wildcat's third goal in
the 88th minute to give UK the 3-0 win. The Golden Eagles fall to
1-7-1 on the season.
The Golden Eagles finished with six shots, including a shot on
goal from freshman Sarah Gawthrop. Junior Jen Hoffman led the
Golden Eagles with two total shots. Hoffman earned all-tournament
team honors for her effort.
Kentucky had 14 total shots, and six on goal. Freshman goalkeeper
Megan Polk played all 90 minutes for the Golden Eagles and finished
with three saves.
There were three yellow-cards issued in the chippy match. Two of
them came against Tech freshmen Jacquie Watkins and Kerri Reid, and
one went against Kentucky's Katie Fahey.
Tech fell to undefeated Marshall 3-2 in its first match of the UK
Tournament.
The Golden Eagles will return home to play in Cookeville for the
first time since Aug. 28 when they open up Ohio Valley Conference
play against UT Martin on Sept. 25. Tech will also host Murray
State on Sept. 27 in an OVC showdown.
