Golden Eagles host two this week, including Senior Day against Austin Peay Sunday at 2 p.m.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - At the halfway point of the Ohio Valley Conference soccer season the Tennessee Tech soccer team finds itself with a 2-1-1 conference record and in a tie for first place in points in the conference standings.

The Golden Eagles, 3-8-2 overall, are now preparing to host a non-conference showdown against Longwood on Oct. 8 at 4 p.m., before taking on OVC foe and in-state rival Austin Peay on Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. Tech's match against APSU is its final home match of the season, and senior Brittany Rogers will be honored before the game in a special Senior Day presentation.

Tech will be facing Longwood for the first time in program history on Thursday. The Lancers enters the week at 7-5 overall in 2009, and are a Division I independent.

Tech owns a commanding 6-1 all-time advantage over Austin Peay. The Golden Eagles are currently riding a three-game win streak over the Govs, and have outscored APSU 6-2 in that time. Austin Peay enters the week at 1-9-3 overall, and 0-2-2 in OVC play.

The Golden Eagles went into overtime in both their matches last weekend, beating Eastern Kentucky 2-1 and tying Morehead State 0-0. Tech remains unbeaten in four overtime matches in 2009, at 2-0-2. Of Tech's four OT matches, three have gone to double-overtime.

Junior Jen Hoffman is coming off a stellar week. She earned the league's top weekly honor for her performance against Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State last week. Hoffman scored both of Tech's goals against Eastern Kentucky on Oct. 2, one of which coming in the final 20 minutes of regulation, and the other a game-winner in overtime, as she was a unanimous selection for the OVC's Offensive Player of the Week award. Hoffman is tied with Andrew Meloff for the team lead in goals on the season with four. The two are tied for fifth in the OVC in goals scored this season.

After its two home matches this week, Tech will spend the final five games of the season on the road. That trip will start with two conference road matches next week. First will be Eastern Illinois on Oct. 16, then the Golden Eagles will visit Southeast Missouri on Oct. 18. Tech will have just one OVC match remaining after that trip, which will be a visit to Jacksonville State on Oct. 23. The Golden Eagles will also square off with Lipscomb of the Atlantic Sun on Oct. 27.

Admission to all Tech home soccer matches is free.
