BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech track & field team saw one of its own take home weekly honors for the first time in her career, as Paris Bowles was honored as the Ohio Valley Conference Female Freshman Athlete of the Week as announced by the league Wednesday afternoon.

Bowles delivered a monster personal-best time competing in the 800-meter run at Vanderbilt's Outdoor Music City Challenge over the weekend. The rookie won her heat while blazing to a new PR of 2:12.03.

The freshman's mark represented the second-fastest time turned in by an OVC runner this season. Bowles' time was also just under three seconds slower than the Tech program record of 2:08.81 set by D'Airrien Jackson back in 2016.

The Memphis native also helped the Golden Eagle 4x400-meter relay team to a spectacular showing at the event, placing third overall with a time of 3:45.64. Including Trenia Stephens, Malika Coutain, and Amara Nwajagu, the quartet of Tech sprinters won their heat with the top time in the OVC this season, besting familiar foes such as Belmont, UT Martin, Lindenwood, and Lipscomb.

The Golden Eagles will now head to postseason action, competing at the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championships in Edwardsville, Ill. from Thursday, May 11 through Saturday, May 13.
