Golden Eagles open Georgia Tech Invitational with strong first day

ATLANTA, Ga. – Yet another solid showing was on display by the Tennessee Tech outdoor track & field team Friday afternoon and evening, as the Golden Eagles wrapped up day one of the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Ga.

Veteran distance runner Rahab Sawe provided the top showing on the day, placing sixth overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. The senior clocked in with a time of 11:19.32 to secure her top-10 finish.

Joining the fun on the distance side of the track was Helel Pacurariu-Nagy, locking down her own top-10 performance in the 5,000-meter run. The junior delivered a time of 17:18.44 to register a new personal best in the event. 

Moving over the sprinters, Trenia Stephens also enjoyed a fantastic showing, producing a new PR in the 100-meter dash. The senior raced to a time of 12.41 for the new career mark. Narrowly missing out on her own personal best in the event was Tenae Minor, falling just two-hundredths of a second shy of her career record with a time of 12.45 seconds. 

Senior Anya Akili performed well in a number of events, starting with a new outdoor personal record in the long jump. The veteran posted a top-15 performance with a distance of 5.52 meters (18'1.5"). She also finished in the top-15 in the 100-meter hurdles, turning in a time of 14.73 seconds.

Rounding the PR performances for the day was Cayla Johnson, powering to a new career mark in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.02.

Saturday's action in Atlanta will begin with field events at 11:00 a.m. CT and running events at 12:00 p.m.
