Tech set for second meet of indoor season at Bellarmine Open

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech track and field program continues the 2022-23 indoor campaign with the single-day, Bellarmine Open Friday morning, competing at the Norton Health Care Sports and Learning Center in Louisville, Ky.

Jan. 20, 2023 – Located at the Norton Health Care Sports and Learning Center in Louisville, Ky. Friday's action will kick off with field events at 9:00 a.m. CT and running events at 10:00 a.m.

What to Watch For
Tech got off to a strong start to the season last week at the Commodore Challenge in Nashville, seeing a plethora of personal records and top-10 finishes from a squad full of a healthy mix of veterans and youth.

Junior Ruby Wyles delivered the top performance of the weekend, winning the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:57.83. Sophomore Amara Nwajagu captured a third-place finish while setting a PR in the 400-meter dash, delivering a time of 57.30. She also placed 10th in the 200-meter dash with a personal-best time of 25.67.

Helen Pacurariu-Nagy clocked in with a time of 10:31.41 in the 3,000-meter run, finishing fifth overall. Kendall Medders cleared a new PR of 1.58 meters (5'2.25") in the high jump to take her own fifth-place finish.

Freshman Malika Coutain enjoyed a solid debut in the purple and gold, snagging a top-10 finish in the 400m with a PR of 59.30. Fellow rookie Sidnee Stanton also put forth a top-10 performance, setting a personal record in the long jump with a mark of 5.50 meters (18'0.25"). Senior Anya Akili set her own PR in the long jump, leaping a distance of 5.54 meters (18'2.25").

The Golden Eagles compete next at the Indiana Relays hosted by Indiana in Bloomington, Ind. on Friday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 28. Tech is also slated to send some competitors to the Tigers Indoor Invitational, hosted by Sewanee in Sewanee, Tenn. on Saturday, Jan. 28.
