Purple and gold poised for OVC Indoor Track & Field Championships

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech indoor track and field team puts a cap on the season by competing in the 2022 Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships Wednesday and Thursday in Birmingham, Ala. For the third time, the league's championship event will be held at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

OVC Indoor Track & Field Championships Information
Feb. 23-24, 2022 – Located at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala. Wednesday's action will kick off with combined events at 9:00 a.m. CT while field events are slated to begin at 11:30 a.m. and running events will begin at 2:40 p.m. On Thursday, combined events will begin at 9:00 a.m. while the field events will commence at 11:00 a.m. and running events will kick off at 12:30 p.m.

What to Watch For
A plethora of Golden Eagles are poised to collect points at the first OVC Indoor Championships since 2020 (the 2021 event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic). Tech athletes have combined to post 12 of the top-10 results in a number of events during the regular season.

Freshman Cayla Johnson owns the league's top showing in the pentathlon this season, as well as the second-best high jump performance and third-best leap in the long jump. Ruby Wyles boasts the top-ranked time in the 5,000-meter run, as well as the third-fastest time in the 3,000-meter run.

Amanda Laboy turned in the seventh-best performance in the 5,000-meter run this season while Helen Pacurariu-Nagy delivered the eighth-fastest in the same event. Tech's distance medley relay team produced the fourth-best result on the year while the 4x400 relay squad posted the sixth-fastest showing.

Jalena Curbeam enters the OVCs with the fifth-furthest leap in the triple jump, followed by Madison Cowan with the ninth-best result. In the long jump, Samaria Allen performed at the league's ninth-best result.
