Tech heads to Murray for Friday's OVC Trio Challenge

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech outdoor track and field team continues its 2022 season with its fourth straight week of competition, heading to Murray, Ky. for the OVC Trio Challenge on Friday, a one-day event featuring the Golden Eagles, and fellow Ohio Valley Conference foes Murray State and Austin Peay.

OVC Trio Challenge Information
Apr. 15, 2022 – Located at Roy Stewart Stadium and Marshall Gage Track in Murray, Ky. Friday's action will kick off with field events at 2:00 p.m. CT and continue with running events beginning at 3:00 p.m.

What to Watch For
This will mark the second this season the Golden Eagles compete at Marshall Gage Track in Murray, having taken part in the Margaret Simmons Invitational back on Mar. 25-26.

Junior Jalena Curbeam led the experienced group of the purple and gold in that meet, placing fifth in the triple jump and 10th in the long jump. Jadae Joseph competed in both events as well, collecting a top-10 finish in the triple jump, while Samaria Allen turned in the top showing for the Tech crew in the long jump.

Anya Akili put forth a top-15 showing in a huge field in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 26.72 seconds. Rahab Sawe delivered a personal record while winning her heat in the 1,500-meter run while Nyla Armand led the Golden Eagles in the 800-meter run.

Amara Nwajagu had a strong start to her outdoor career in Murray, placing seventh in the 400-meter dash with a lifetime best after completing the 200-meter dash with a PR. Diamond Rush also made the most of her first outdoor experience, earning PRs in the 400-meter hurdles (as well as a fifth-place finish) and the 400-meter dash.

The Golden Eagles compete next at the Outdoor Music City Challenge, hosted by Vanderbilt, in Nashville, Tenn. on Friday, Apr. 29 and Saturday, Apr. 30.
