Tech wraps up regular season with strong showing at Outdoor Music City Challenge

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The final day of competition of the regular season was another successful one for the Tennessee Tech outdoor track & field team, as the Golden Eagles wrapped up the Outdoor Music City Challenge Saturday.

"It was a great final meet to finish the regular season," Tech head coach Peter Dalton said. "Across the board, we've seen huge improvement and so much potential for our student-athletes at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships approach."

Britnie Dixon was just one of numerous Golden Eagles to show off their skills on the day, placing second in her heat in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:14.23. Also competing in the event, Nyla Armand set a personal record with a final showing of 2:18.18.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Trenia Stephens, Diamond Rush, Amara Nwajagu, and Anya Akili combined for a season-best mark of 3:52.24, just one of several highlights from the group.

Nwajagu set a PR on the day in the 400, sprinting to a career-best finish of 57.46 to place sixth. Stephens collected her own personal best in the event as well, clocking in at 58.73.

A day after setting a new personal record in the long jump with a mark of 5.47m (17'11.5") and nearly making a PR in the 200-meter dash with a mark of 25.23, Akili produced in the 100-meter hurdles. The junior set a new career mark with a time of 14.57 to finish in the top-15.

In the 5,000-meter run, it was Ruby Wyles providing the top performance for the purple and gold, placing fourth overall with an outdoor-best time of 17:31.09. Competing in the triple jump, Jalena Curbeam finished 8th with a mark of 11.11 meters (36'5.5").

Kendall Medders delivered an impressive showing in the high jump, tying for seventh with a season-best-tying mark of 1.60 meters (5'3"). Diamond Rush earned a PR in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking in at 1:06.77.

Competing as an individual, men's cross country's Jackson Burns turned in a time of 10.98 in the 100-meter dash after doubling back from the 200-meter run with a time of 22.22.

The Golden Eagles compete next at the OVC Outdoor Championships, hosted by Murray State and the Ohio Valley Conference, in Murray, Ky. Wednesday, May 11 through Friday, May 13.
