MURRAY, Ky. – The Tennessee Tech outdoor track & field team wrapped up action at the Margaret Simmons Invitational Saturday afternoon, with a number of Golden Eagles seeing their first career action and others delivering their top performances to date.
On day two of competition, there were a number of standouts for the purple and gold, led by a fifth-place finish in the triple jump from Jalena Curbeam. The junior produced a distance of 11.42 meters (37'5.50") to collect the top-five showing. Jadae Joseph added a mark of 10.80 (35'5.25") meters as well, finishing 10th overall.
Also competing on the field side was Samaria Allen, who delivered a strong showing in the long jump. The sophomore turned in a leap of 5.32 meters (17'5.50") to pace the Tech effort in the event. Both Curbeam (5.17 meters/16'11.50") and Joseph (4.76 meters/15'7.50") collected personal records on the day.
Rahab Sawe racked up a lifetime-best showing in the 1,500-meter run, winning her heat with a time of 5:03.78. Taylor Ward also turned in a PR in her first collegiate attempt at the event, coming in at 5:39.86.
In the 400-meter dash, it was Amara Nwajagu enjoying a great career debut, placing seventh with a lifetime record of 59.34 seconds. After placing fifth in the 400-meter hurdles on Friday with a PR of 1:08.27, Diamond Rush made the most of her turn in the 400-meter dash, posting another personal best of 1:05.10. Adding another PR in the event was Ashtin Holman, clocking in at 1:05.17.
Competing in the 800-meter run, Nyla Armand gave the Golden Eagles their top showing in the event with a finish of 2:28.84. Not far behind was teammate Britnie Dixon, taking her first stab at the event as a Golden Eagle and finishing at 2:32.29. Jadyn Norman rounded out the participants with a PR 2:49.36 in her collegiate debut.
