COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech track and field program makes it back-to-back weeks of indoor competition with the two-day Commodore Challenge in Nashville, hosted by Vanderbilt Friday and Saturday.
Commodore Challenge Information
Jan. 14-15, 2022 – Located at the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility in Nashville, Tenn. Friday's action will kick off with field events at 2:30 p.m. CT and running events at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, field events will begin at 11:00 a.m. while the running events are slated to kick off at 12:00 p.m.
What to Watch For
The Golden Eagles enter their second meet of the 2022 campaign after a strong mix of results at the last week's Ed Temple Classic hosted by Tennessee State.
The Ohio Valley Conference's reigning Female Freshman of the Week, Cayla Johnson claimed a pair of first-place showing in the high jump (1.65 meters) and long jump (5.32 meters) while also placing sixth in the 55-meter hurdles.
Transfers Tenae Minor (Bryant & Stratton College) and Britnie Dixon (Northern Illinois) also produced medalist results in their Golden Eagle debuts. Minor captured the top spot in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.17 seconds while Dixon clocked in a time of 2:24.23 to capture the 800-meter run title.
Nyla Armand posted a runner-up finish in the 800m with a personal record of 2:27.12 while rookie Amara Nwajagu placed third in the 400-meter dash with a mark of 1:01.36. Kategie Casseus, another Tech freshman, took third in the 55m dash with a 7.40 finish while Kendall Medders earned a third-place showing in the high jump, clearing 1.55 meters.
Jalena Curbeam rounded out Tech's podium placements, completing the triple jump in second place with a distance of 11.50 meters.
