NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech outdoor track & field team kicked off action at the Outdoor Music City Challenge Friday, completing four events while competing at the Vanderbilt Outdoor Track Facility.
Three different Golden Eagles delivered personal-best marks on the day, with one more narrowly missing one of her own. Taking part in the 200-meter dash, Anya Akili raced to a finish of 25.23 seconds, just one one-hundredth of a second off her career-best showing.
Trenia Stephens also delivered a PR in the event, finishing right behind her teammate with a time of 25.43. Competing in the 200-meter for the first time, Amara Nwajagu was the third Golden Eagle to cross the finish line, squeaking in just behind Stephens at 25.63 seconds.
Akili turned in a fourth-place finish in the long jump after qualifying for the finals, recording a PR as well. The junior leaped to a distance of 5.47 meters (17'11.5"). Also clinching a spot in the finals and earning a top-10 performance was Samaria Allen, tallying a mark of 5.24 meters (17'2.25").
Rahab Sawe contributed her own personal record on the day in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Placing eighth overall, she clocked in at 11:29.33. Maddie Long competed in the 1,500-meter run to close out the Tech competitors, finishing at 5:08.21
The meet is set to wrap up Saturday, beginning with field events at 9:00 a.m. CT and running events kicking off at 1:30 p.m.
