Purple and gold geared up for Outdoor Music City Challenge

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech outdoor track and field team will make the trip west to Nashville for its final tune-up prior to the Ohio Valley Conference Championships, competing at Vanderbilt's Outdoor Music City Challenge Friday and Saturday at the Vanderbilt Outdoor Track Facility.

Outdoor Music City Challenge Information
Apr. 29-30, 2022 – Located at the Vanderbilt Outdoor Track Facility in Nashville, Tenn. Friday's action will kick off with field events at 12:00 p.m. CT and continue with running events beginning at 5:15 p.m. On Saturday, field events will begin at 9:00 a.m. while running events will commence at 1:30 p.m.

What to Watch For
The Golden Eagles enter the meet fresh off their first break of the outdoor campaign, having competed four consecutive weekends since the season-opening event in March. Tech last saw action at the OVC Trio Challenge, competing against Murray State and Austin Peay in Murray, Ky. on Apr. 15.

Britnie Dixon and Amanda Laboy paced the strong day of results for the purple and gold, both earning medalist honors. Dixon turned in a personal record of 2:13.97 to win the 800-meter. Shelby UdovichJadyn Norman, and Taylor Ward all collected PRs in the event as well.

Laboy posted her own PR of 10:30.52 in the 3,000-meter run to claim the win. Rahab Sawe was right behind, placing second with a personal-best mark of 10:31.92.

Kendall Medders turned in a runner-up showing in the high jump, tying her career-high mark of 1.60 meters (5'3"). Jalena Curbeam posted a third-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 11.43 meters (37'6") while Jadae Joseph tallied a season-best jump of 10.77 meters (35'4").

The Golden Eagles compete next at the OVC Outdoor Championships, hosted by Murray State and the Ohio Valley Conference, in Murray, Ky. Wednesday, May 11 through Friday, May 13.
