Golden Eagles fall to South Carolina

MACON, Ga. – South Carolina struck for 11 runs in the third inning on Saturday as the Southeastern Conference foe took a 21-1 victory over Tennessee Tech at the Mercer Bear Invitational.

Tech (1-9) was held to three hits in the contest as Haeli Bryson hit a double to drive in the Golden Eagles' lone run with Jordynn Shirley coming across in the bottom of the first inning. Abby Shoulders and Tristen Head collected the other two hits in the game as the Golden Eagles stranded six runners in the contest.

The Gamecocks hit four home runs in the game, including two for leadoff batter Jordan Fabian. South Carolina tagged Tech's battery for 16 hits in the contest.

Callie Piper took the loss, allowing nine runs on six hits in the first two innings. She walked four and struck out one. Kaylan Cole (1/3 IP, 3 BB), Gracelyn Woollen (2 IP, 1 BB, 1 K) and Avery Flatford (1 IP, 2 BB) threw the remainder of the game, allowing the other 12 runs.

The Golden Eagles return to action tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. Central to take on South Carolina once more to close out the Mercer Bear Invitational.
