Golden Eagles soar to 7-0 victory over Tennessee State

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech tennis team continued its winning ways, as the Golden Eagles claimed a 7-0 victory at Tennessee State for the club's eighth-straight win Friday afternoon in Nashville.

Tech (8-5, 4-0 OVC) reigned supreme during singles action with convincing wins in all six clashes. With the clean sweep, the Golden Eagles have now posted a combined 29-2 singles record over the last five matches.

Elias Grubert picked up a 6-1, 6-2 nod over Stefan Koruga in the No. 2 spot, which was mirrored by the same exact score in a Andre Rodeia triumph against Diego Britt-Alvarez in the No. 4 affair. Rafael Tosetto secured a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Oliwer Wierzbicki in the No. 3 position, while Mika Berghaus collected a 6-4, 6-1 win over Daniel Perez Caraballo in the No. 5 slot and Jun Sasagawa notched a 6-3, 6-2 nod against Leandros Midrachis in the No. 6 battle.

Carlos Vicente was victorious after Maksims Kazijevs retired in the No. 1 tilt with Vicente on top 5-0 in the first set.

The Golden Eagles soared over the Tigers (0-10, 0-3 OVC) during doubles play with wins in two of the three clashes. Evzen Holis and Jun Sasagawa took home a 6-1 win over Leandros Misdrachis and Alberto Gonzalez Raton in the No. 1 position, and Carlos Vicente and Elias Grubert powered past Diego Britt-Alvarez and Maksims Kazijevs, 6-3, in the No. 3 spot.

Andre Rodeia and Rafael Tosetto led 5-4 over Oliwer Wierzbicki and Stefan Koruga at the time the No. 2 doubles matchup was called.

Tech will play host to Austin Peay on Saturday, Apr. 17 in the regular-season finale from Tech Tennis Courts. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
