Tech closes out regular season with Saturday home contest against Austin Peay

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech tennis team is set to put the finishing touches on the regular season, as the Golden Eagles play host to Austin Peay in a Saturday-afternoon finale at Tech Tennis Courts. First serve with the Govs is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.

Admission at Tech Tennis Courts is free of charge.


A look at Tennessee Tech

Having already captured a share of the regular-season championship, the program's eighth in the last 10 full seasons, the Golden Eagles will look to claim the title outright in Saturday's clash. Tech (8-5, 4-0 OVC) enters the regular-season finale rolling behind eight straight victories for the program's longest winning surge since nine straight nods in 2016.

Singles play has proven to be quite kind to the purple and gold of late, with Tech sporting an eye-popping 28-2 solo mark over the last five matches. Overall, the Golden Eagles have outscored their OVC opponents 24-4 in the quartet of contests, and Tech's only losses this spring have come at the hands of "Power 5" competition.

Elias Grubert and Andre Rodeia pace the squad with eight singles wins apiece. The youthful duo comes into Saturday's affair scorching, with Grubert enjoying five consecutive singles wins and Rodeia riding a current club-best seven straight wins. Rafael Tosetto has won six straight solo clashes and Mika Berghaus has claimed five singles wins in a row to round out the four Golden Eagles with at least five consecutive solo wins.

Carlos Vicente has appeared the most times at the top of TTU's singles lineup and has posted a 7-5 mark out of that spot.

As far as doubles play is concerned, Evzen Holis and Jun Sasagawa have teamed up to lead Tech with six tandem victories this spring.

The Golden Eagles have been nearly unbeatable in Cookeville, posting a 42-2 home record over the last 44 matches played at Tech Tennis Courts.


A look at Austin Peay

After starting the year with seven straight losses, the Governors have split the last four get-togethers, all of which have been OVC matches. Austin Peay (2-9, 2-2 OVC) picked up wins against Tennessee State and Eastern Illinois, but dropped contests to Jacksonville State and Belmont.

Anton Damberg, Jacob Lorino and Frederic Schlossmann lead the team with four singles wins this spring. Schlossmann is 2-2 out of the No. 1 spot, while Damberg's damage has come out of the No. 4 position with a 3-3 mark and Lorino has found success in the No. 5 slot with a 4-3 ledger.

Damberg and Schlossman have teamed up to go a club-leading 3-5 in doubles play, all out of the No. 1 spot in the APSU order. The tandem is 2-1 in OVC action.


Inside the Series

Tech has controlled the all-time series thanks to a 45-25 edge over the Govs. The Golden Eagles have collected four straight wins in the set, all by 7-0 margins, including a 7-0 nod in Clarksville on Apr. 7, 2019 in the last meeting of the series.
