Tech tennis marches to seventh-straight win behind 6-1 nod over UAB

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Another day and another dominating singles showing carried way for the Tennessee Tech tennis team, as the Golden Eagles won all six solo battles en route to a 6-1 triumph over UAB Sunday afternoon at Tech Tennis Courts.

Tech's primetime singles performance marks the second time this year the Golden Eagles (7-5, 3-0 OVC) have swept all six solo clashes. The victory also pushes the purple and gold's winning streak to seven in a row.

The Blazers (5-9) did manage to secure the doubles point to jump ahead 1-0 in the affair with victories in two of the three duo duels. The combination of Daniel Janko and Vojtech Podzemny rolled to a 6-1 nod over Carlos Vicente and Rafael Toseeto in the No. 2 position, while Thanos Spyropolous and Giovani Pasini picked up a 6-3 win against Elias Grubert and Mika Berghaus in the No. 3 slot.

The top-tandem battle pitting Jun Sasagawa and Evzen Holis against Roman Postolka and Michal Lusovsky did not finish.

Once the scene shifted to singles action, the tide turned in favor of the Golden Eagles, who ended their two-match home stand by winning 11 of a possible 12 solo meetings after checking the win column in five-of-six matchups in Saturday's 5-2 triumph over Jacksonville State.

All six of Sunday's clashes were claimed in straight sets, including an Elias Grubert 6-2, 6-4 victory over Michal Lusovsky in the No. 2 spot. Rafael Tosetto powered past Daniel Janko behind a 6-2, 6-1 win out of the No. 4 get-together, while Andre Rodeia earned a 6-2, 6-4 nod against Vojtech Podzemny in the No. 5 meeting and Mika Berghaus carded a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Giovani Pasini in the No. 6 showdown.

The No. 1 and No. 3 battles were slightly closer, but when the dust finally settled, the Golden Eagles reigned supreme. Carlos Vicente took home a 7-6 (5), 6-2 win over Roman Postolka in the No. 1 position and Evzen Hollis earned a 6-2, 7-6 (3) triumph in the No. 3 slot.

With two matches remaining in the regular season, Tech will jump back into OVC play with a Friday, Apr. 9 affair at Tennessee State. First serve in Nashville is slated for 1 p.m. CT.
